WHY WOMEN LOVE VALENTINE'S DAY

WHY VALENTINE'S DAY IS IMPORTANT, why the holiday matters and how easy it is to impress her
Valentine’s Day spurns all sorts of different reactions from females, and a lot of it depends on whether or not we’re single. Riding solo sucks, and not just because you don’t get a free dinner. It’s a huge reminder that we’re still without a plus one. And the googly-eyed couples smooching in corner booths everywhere aren’t helping. If we happen to have a guy, it’s a whole different story. Valentine’s Day can actually be fun and something to look forward to (and it’s a friendly reminder that we’re not alone). Don’t be deceived by women who say they hate the day. Sure, it’s been blown out of proportion with all the card companies and heart-shaped chocolate boxes and that one movie with Ashton Kutcher, but there’s no woman on Earth who doesn’t like to be doted on. Not one. I know what you’re thinking: But why do we have to participate in some meaningless holiday when I tell her that I love her every day?

Here’s why:

We like the attention.
Let’s not kid each other. Valentine’s Day isn’t for dudes. It’s not even for couples. It’s a holiday that celebrates how much you care about your lady. That’s right, this is our day. And unlike other opportunities for men to shower their women with affection, it’s actually a day marked on our calendar. Which means we have time to get excited about it. All we really want is for your world to revolve around us. On Valentine’s Day we can pretend it actually does.

It’s an excuse to be super romantic.
We know it’s not right, but years of secretly (and not-so secretly) watching romantic comedies have brainwashed us into thinking we need grand gestures and sonnets and men who like to brush our hair as we fall asleep. Even the gals who aren’t mushy like to stare longingly into the eyes of the man they love every now and then. We’re just hardwired to like romance. And sure, we’re happy being your pal, your confidant, and the girlfriend all your buddies love, but we also want to be the girl you’re still trying to get. We want the butterflies. We want you to take our breath away (whatever that means). We don’t want all romance all the time, but once a year it’s nice let our inner princesses get some air.

We like chocolate.
And other delicious treats.

It’s proof that we chose the right guy.
All that said, women really love Valentine’s Day because (if you plays your cards correctly) it reinforces our choice of partner. Guys are hardwired to make babies with boatloads of females, but women are built to choose the best possible mate. When we find a partner we deem fit, we like to show him off! It’s a sign that we have great taste in men, but also that we’re smart, desirable, and more alpha than the next girl. We want to know we picked a guy who deep down would do anything to make us happy, even if that means playing along with the whole Valentine’s Day charade. We want to know we picked a guy who is proud to be ours and wants the whole world to know it. Really, it’s the ultimate bragging rite for our gender.

In short:
If you’re with someone this Valentine’s Day, celebrate her, not the holiday. If you’re single, call your mom. She’ll think it’s sweet.
