CNPC Finishes Tanzania Undersea Pipeline


The state-owned China National Petroleum Corporation has completed the undersea portion of Tanzania’s gas pipeline, according tothe state-owned China News Service.
“With the assistance of the CPP601 pipelay vessel, CNPC successfully connected the undersea pipe at 3:20am on April 15 before laying the pipeline safely on the seabed, the report said,” reports China Times.

The Tanzania pipeline project is CNPC’s first solo try at undersea pipeline construction.

According toCPP601 spokesperson Zhen Hongchang, the undersea pipeline industry has largely been dominated by European and American companies, whose engineers are more trusted internationally.

The natural gas pipeline project was started in August 2013 and contracted to CNPC. It is 540 kilometers, with the undersea portion for 29km.
