10 NEW WAYS TO WEAR EYELINER

Makeup artist Nick Barose, the mastermind behind Lupita Nyongo's signature bright eyeliner, shares 10 easy liner looks you can create at home.

1. Sultry Rockstar Eyes: Line the top and bottom of the inner water line with a creamy, long-wearing kohl pencil. Squeeze eyes together so it smudges a little, clean around edges with a pointy cotton swab, then run the pencil along upper and lower lash lines again. Extend the line out with a wing to add sultriness. To make the line look artfully smudgy and not too perfect, use the rubber tip of the pencil to smudge. For added drama, line inner rims one more time and add tons of mascara.

2. Go Gray: Line along upper lash lines with a gray gel liner to define eyes. To avoid making the lines look too dark or graphic, trace along upper lash lines using an angled eyeliner brush. Gray liner is a great alternative to the usual black—it's softer and more forgiving, especially during the day.

3. Blue Pastels. Smudge a sheer, shimmery, pastel-blue eye crayon (Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Mint Snow) on upper and lower lash lines and gently spread it out using flat brush. Be sure to blend it around the edges so it look soft and sheer, with a watercolor-like wash.

4. Gold Metallic: Line upper lash line with a dark or chocolate-brown gel liner to create a base shape, then trace along upper lash line with fine gold-glitter eyeliner. (Urban Decay Glitter Eyeliner) Since the glitter is already, dramatic go easy on mascara.

5. Plum Smoky: For daytime drama, plum is a good neutral that's more interesting than brown but not so dramatic that you can wear day and night. Line along the upper lash line and make it a bit thick on the outer corners, then line the outer corners on lower lashes, blending with a cotton swab to make it a bit smoky.

6. Two Blue: Pair bright aquamarine blue along the lower lash lines (for added drama, try getting close to the inner rims). Then, trace along upper lash lines with dark royal blue to add definition.

7. Add Bronze. Jazz up your brown eyeshadow by lining the inner rim of the lower lash line with a bronzy green eyeliner pencil. The hint of green is subtle and will make your neutral eyeshadow more interesting but not so dramatic that you can't wear it during the day.

8. Exotic Green. Pair two tones of green by placing the brighter one from the inner corner to the center, then layer the deeper geen from the center and wing it out. it's a fun, easy way to add bright color without having to wear it as a bright line, which might be too much.

9. Get Foxy: Play with the eye shape by accentuating the length to add drama and sultriness to the eyes.  Use wet and dry eyeshadow in a shimmering deep royal blue by dampening the brush and painting the upper lids in a thick, cat eye wing.

10. Go Brown: Define the upper lash line with a brown liquid liner, then use a brown pencil to trace along lower lash lines, blurring it out a bit. By adding liquid liner, which is more intense, on top, the eyes are defined, but the pencil on the bottom is softer, so it doesn't create a harsh line to close the eyes down.
