13-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl become Britain’s youngest parents

Tressa Middleton in 2006
In 2006 Tressa Middleton became Britain's youngest mother when she became pregnant at 11 and gave birth aged 12, in Edinburgh.
Now eight years later a 12-year-old girl, has given birth to her 13-year-old boyfriend’s child, making them the UK’s youngest parents. The girl, from London, is five months younger than the UK’s previous youngest mum while her mother, who was a teen parent herself, becomes one of Britain's youngest-ever grans at the age of 27.
The mum, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was just ten years old when she met the dad and was still at primary school when she fell pregnant. The pair have the lowest combined age of any British parents on record. The parents, from north London, have been in a relationship for a year and say they are “totally in love”.
The world’s youngest mum on record was Peruvian Lina Medina who gave birth to her son Gerardo when she was five years old, in 1939.
