The top 12 Miss SA 2014 contestants were officially introduced to the media today during an event held at the Cell C Waterfall Campus in Buccleuch, Johannesburg.
The 12 beauties were chosen out of hundreds of entrants who entered the competition in a bid to become the most envied woman in the country as well an ambassador for the Miss South Africa brand.
Mishka Patel (Western Cape), Anzel Stofberg (Western Cape), Tshegofatso Monggae (Gauteng), Jade Hubner (Western Cape), Tidimalo Sekhalo (Gauteng), Matlala Mokoko (Limpopo), Ziphozakhe Zokufa (Eastern Cape), Abigail de Jager (Mpumalanga), Julia Petersen (KZN), Caylene Marais (Gauteng), Rolene Strauss (Free State) and Dipalesa Mbola (Free State) are the lucky ladies who made the cut.
For the next 6 weeks, South Africans will get to know the contestants better as they feature in the TV show ‘Road to Miss SA’ where they will be taking part in a number of tasks and interviews leading to the main event at Sun City on Sunday March 30.
“We believe we have a very strong Top 12, a group of young women who are passionate about competing and who have the intelligence and dedication to be a winner. The judges had a difficult task choosing the 12 from the 33 semi-finalists, but I am confident that the eventual winner will prove a powerful ambassador for the Miss South Africa brand,” Alison McKie, of Sun International, said.
For two of the contestants Abigail de Jager and Julia Petersen the experience has been an amazing one.
“I feel so privileged and humbled to have been chosen and the support we have received from our families and the public has been amazing,” De Jager said.
“My dad is so excited he wants to print t-shirts with my face on them,” she added.
Those sentiments were shared by Petersen who is hoping to take the big prize this time around after only making it to top 16 last year.
“This year I’m more confident and sure of what I want. The workshops we went through last year have also helped me a lot,” said the KZN beauty.
Miss South Africa 2010 Bokang Montjane had these words of wisdom to share with the ladies: “If you are born to be Miss SA it will happen, God has already decided, you just need to give your best.”
“Have fun on the night and don’t think that the winner has been selected; you can still change it on the final night.”
“Do your best and the rest will fall into place”.
The Road to Miss South Africa is screened each Sunday on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) at 17H30.
